A new Windows 11 Camera app is in town

Say cheese! Microsoft has recently announced a new update for the Camera app that is bundled with Windows 11, and this fresh release comes with a whole pack of improvements.

The company details these additions in the post announcing the update.

First up, we have a more polished UI for the application that finally aligns it with the rest of the OS. As the image below shows, the clean and minimalist style goes well the iconography that is now the mainstay in the operating system.

You get a complete dark mode to go with the default user interface, as is the norm with all the updates to the inbox apps Microsoft has been rolling out for Windows 11.

Next up, we have a bunch of features that the Redmond based company has baked into the app.

At long last, there is finally support for QR code and barcode scanning. These go with the existing support for camera, video, document and whiteboard capture modes that have been part of the package for a while now on the app.

The version number of the Camera app that you are looking for 2022.2206.20, and installing this will get you in on not just the visual upgrade but also these two new features.

This update is rolling out for Dev channel users, so make sure you are enrolled in this ring of the Windows Insider Program to get access to this latest version of the Camera app.
