Edge improves PWA notifications with the name of web apps

Edge Browser

Promise becomes reality! Microsoft has quietly started testing the new notifications experience for Edge for Progressive Web Apps. This feature was among several in the roadmap that the company recently put together for the browser.

As things stand, the existing banner notifications for installed PWAs show that all notifications are coming from Microsoft Edge.

But this will soon change.

That’s because the Edge development team is updating the notification banner to better highlight the name of the web applications. Not only that, the new PWA notifications are also more compact now, with the name of the progressive web app now appearing in the title bar.

All this has been spotted by Windows Insider MVP Florian B, who spotted the improved notification banner on one of his PCs running the Edge Canary build.

Apparently, Microsoft is conducting some good old A/B testing with this new design.

The feature is currently available for select Edge Insiders, but is expected to begin rolling out in the Stable channel in September. Redmond has penciled in Edge 94 for the launch of this feature, with this version almost on the horizon.

Should make for a much better experience for Windows users that rely on PWAs on Edge. Keeping track of emails and messages ought to be easier with this welcome new addition.
