Good help is always appreciated. More so, when it comes in the form of an intelligent writing assistant for the programs in the Office suite of productivity applications.
The Microsoft Editor feature made its debut in Word not too long ago, and followed up that performance as a web browser extension. And it is now due for arrival soon to Outlook for Windows, as the company notes.
Redmond has announced that it has started rolling out this feature out to Office Insiders in the Beta channel that are running build 14315.10000 or later of Outlook for Windows.
And the company hopes that it will help them write better emails:
“Editor is an intelligent writing assistant that’s designed to help you get your message across more effectively, and give you more confidence as a writer and communicator. We are now bringing the Editor pane to Outlook in response to your feedback. Our goal is to simplify your proofreading pass, allowing you to both quickly proof your emails and more thoroughly refine and improve your writing.”
Everyone could use better written emails, that’s for sure!
To get started with the Microsoft Editor in Outlook, you can simply head on over to the Review or Message tab and then click the new Editor button. The app will then instantly open a dedicated Editor pane on the right side of the screen that will show all the writing suggestions for the current email.
You will get tips on everything from spelling and grammar corrections to improvements that help with conciseness and clarity.
The feature is gradually rolling out in preview to Microsoft 365 subscribers enrolled in the Office Insider program, and Outlook users will need to use the app in a language that supports proofreading tools.
That is, if they want in on a little help from their very own editor.
