This is why we can’t have good things in life! One of the most anticipated PC hardware launches this year has been pushed back, as Valve has confirmed that Steam Deck will not be decking the halls this Christmas.
The company announced the delay on its handheld gaming system citing — what else — global supply chain issues affecting markets and companies worldwide. Material shortages and components being unable to reach facilities in a timely fashion are the two reasons.
Two primary reasons.
The highly anticipated handheld is now expected to begin shipping in February 2022, a couple of months off from the original December launch that had been penciled.
Valve:
“We did our best to work around the global supply chain issues, but due to material shortages, components aren’t reaching our manufacturing facilities in time for us to meet our initial launch dates.
Based on our updated build estimates, Steam Deck will start shipping to customers February 2022. This will be the new start date of the reservation queue—all reservation holders keep their place in line but dates will shift back accordingly. Reservation date estimates will be updated shortly after this announcement.”
Unfortunately, this setback means that those who had an order placed later in the reservation queue will have their dates shifted back accordingly by two months.

Those out of the loop, the Steam Deck is a gaming device in a handheld form factor that packs quite a punch when it comes to performance. The gadget is powerful enough to run AAA games smoothly, albeit at modified settings.
The fact that it supports Windows 11 out the box makes this is the hottest hardware for PC gamers.
They now have to wait another couple of months for the portable machine to launch.
