Surface site now tells which models will get Windows 11

If you are buying a new Surface in hopes of running Windows 11 on your machine once the new OS is out, then Microsoft has your back. The company has just updated its website with some welcome details.

Details like new banners that indicate compatibility with the next-generation operating system.

As things stand, the majority of the modern Surface devices work with the new OS, as per the store listings. Say, devices released in the last three years. This plays into what we have learned regards to the minimum system requirements of the OS, as well as which Surface devices are out of luck.

This is how the “Free upgrade to Windows 11” banner looks:

So then, the following devices are getting Windows 11 if we go by this distinction.

  • Surface Pro 4
  • Surface Book 3
  • Surface Laptop Go
  • Surface Pro 7/7+
  • Surface Pro X
  • Surface Go 2

Looks like the Surface Studio 2 is the only modern Surface model that is still up for sale in the Microsoft Store, and will not be getting Windows 11 once the new operating system hits store shelves.

And although not listed in the Microsoft Store, Surface Pro 6, Surface Laptop 3, and Surface Book 2 are eligible for the Windows 11 update. Everything else is — officially — out of the picture, and will not get the update to the new operating system.

All thanks to the stricter system requirements that Microsoft has in place, like TPM 2.0 and 8th generation Intel or Ryzen 2000 and newer CPUs.

Weird world.
